Learner with Digital Coach

1-on-1 Digital Lessons for SF Older Adults at No Charge!

  • March 29, 2022
  • Advocacy

Do you want to learn how to use your laptop or tablet and safely navigate the internet without having to leave your home? A digital coach can help!

CTN launched the Digital Coaching program to help older adults learn how to comfortably and independently use the internet. It is currently available to San Francisco older adults, aged 60+, in English, Spanish, and Chinese (Cantonese). The program is completely free of charge and welcomes people of all skill levels — whether you have never touched a computer or want to build on your basic digital skills for specific topics.

Each participant in the program is paired with a personal digital coach Instructor for weekly one-hour lessons, conducted virtually. Every lesson is customized to your individual needs and goals, moving at a slow pace. With the help of your digital coach, you can work on the tools and topics you’re most interested in:

  • Discover how to use telemedicine tools and visit the doctor virtually.
  • Connect with family members through Zoom and video calling apps.
  • Search for your interests and learn new skills through YouTube.
  • Apply for jobs, social services, or benefits online.
  • Stay safe online and avoid scams.

CTN digital coaches are trained to slowly guide you through each digital skill and answer any questions you may have. They can even help assist you in applying to low-cost Internet services like the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP).

Here’s what one participant had to say about working with his digital coach:

It was like a student-teacher relationship. She was there every move guiding me through the process and gave me the confidence to move forward. She gave me pointers on how to stay safe on the internet, showed me how to use the Google Calendar, and even filed technical complaints on my behalf. With the help of my digital coach, it has been a miracle. I used to have an old flip phone. I had never seen someone on a video call. It is amazing to see someone there on the other side.

Do you have questions or know someone who might benefit from this program?
