Building Bridges: CTN Joins Solano Connected to Tackle the Digital Divide

  • January 16, 2025
  • General, Partner Spotlights

At Community Tech Network, we believe that technology can be a tool for empowerment. That’s why we’re excited to partner with Solano Connected, a program of Solano County, California, dedicated to bridging the digital divide and ensuring equitable access to technology for all residents.

What is Solano Connected?

Solano Connected is a groundbreaking initiative launched by Solano County in 2023, funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). It was designed to address critical gaps in digital access, skills, and affordability. A needs assessment conducted prior to the program’s launch revealed that over 12,000 households in the County lacked internet access, and more than 6,000 were without a computer.

To address these challenges, Solano Connected teamed up with trusted digital inclusion leaders like CTN and Tech Exchange to provide free devices, digital skills training, low-cost internet access, and multilingual tech support. Together, we’re helping Solano County residents thrive in the digital age.

How CTN Supports Solano Connected

CTN plays a pivotal role in the Solano Connected program, focusing on delivering digital literacy training and support to older adults (60+) and adults with disabilities (18+). Our efforts include:

  1. Digital Skills Training: From learning how to use devices to mastering internet safety and booking medical appointments online, CTN’s classes are designed to empower learners with practical skills. Training is offered both in person at community hubs and virtually for those who prefer to learn from home. Available in English, Spanish, Tagalog, and other languages.
  2. Device Distribution: Eligible participants in the Solano Connected program can receive free Android tablets, ensuring they have the tools to stay connected and practice their new skills.
  3. Train-the-Trainer Programs: CTN equips staff and volunteers from Solano County-based organizations with the knowledge to teach digital literacy, fostering a sustainable model of community-led digital inclusion.
  4. Ongoing Support: Our instructors provide personalized guidance to learners, whether through providing tech support or helping participants sign up for low-cost home internet programs.

Driving Impact in Solano County

In 2025, CTN aims to serve over 400 Solano County residents through Solano Connected, helping them unlock opportunities in education, healthcare, job searching, and more. By teaching essential digital skills, we’re empowering individuals and strengthening Solano County’s commitment to digital inclusion.

Partnering for a Better Future

Solano Connected exemplifies the power of community partnerships in creating a more inclusive and digitally proficient society. Through this collaboration, Solano County is not only addressing immediate needs but also building long-term solutions to ensure all residents can participate in the digital world.

Whether you’re a resident seeking support, an organization looking to get involved, or a volunteer eager to make an impact, there are countless ways to join this movement. Together, we can close the digital divide and create a brighter future for Solano County.
