Update on Federal Digital Equity Act

Cruz (R-TX) urging the agency to halt the Digital Equity Competitive Grant Program that was created by Congress in the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. This press release written by Drew Garner, Director of Policy Engagement at the Benton Institute for Broadband & Society, provides additional context.

Ted Cruz’s letter has many digital equity leaders reeling and raises concerns that the $2.75B in funding won’t be distributed. But this isn’t slowing the NTIA down! Watch this webinar recording to hear from them directly.

Partner Spotlight

Mission Road Ministries (MRM) in San Antonio, Texas, empowers children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities through residential care, day services, and vocational programs, including digital skills classes.

CTN is proud to support and elevate MRM’s digital inclusion efforts by providing digitalLIFT trainer training to their staff, delivering technology class curricula, and provided 25 large-screen smart TVs. To date, CTN has trained 13 instructors and will continue offering training, resources, and navigator support through December 2026.

Suzanne Larson, Mission Road Ministries’ Digital Equity Program Coordinator, and Samantha Valdez, the Director of Data and Technology, said:

“We are thankful to have a partner willing to go the extra mile for us. [CTN’s] efforts will help enrich the lives of the individuals we serve in our community homes by bringing them closer to others in the community, teaching them important life skills, keeping them physically active, and most importantly, providing hours of fun, all through the power of technology.”

Both CTN and MRM are grateful for the generous support of Methodist Healthcare Ministries, which fuels this partnership. MRM is one of CTN’s 30 community partners being served under the generous funding provided by Methodist Healthcare Ministries.

When Andrew Rogge joined digitalLIFT in 2023, he was driven by curiosity. He had always assumed that younger generations naturally knew how to navigate technology. But as he began meeting learners from different backgrounds, he quickly realized that digital literacy gaps exist across all ages. At digitalLIFT’s Tech Labs, learners come seeking help with what others might consider simple tasks: deleting emails, managing smartphone settings, recognizing scams, or navigating online accounts. For Andrew, these moments are opportunities to empower people rather than simply fix a problem.“I always try not to do things for people,” he explains, “rather point to what they need to click or tap so they can learn and remember.”Read full article: digitallift.org/building-confidence-one-click-at-a-time/#DigitalLiteracy #BuildingConfidence #TechLabs #digitalLIFT ...
