January Lunch & Learn: Missed CTN’s last webinar, Look Back & See Forward? Watch the recording here to learn strategies for staying resilient while promoting digital inclusion in the face of challenges in 2025.

Protect the Digital Equity Act! In 2021, Congress passed the historic Digital Equity Act (DEA), which allocated $2.75 billion for digital inclusion initiatives. However, due to federal budget constraints and shifts in political priorities, the DEA could potentially be defunded. Take action to protect the DEA! Here are some things you can do:

  • Find your representatives: Check out these instructions to find your local elected officials
  • Contact them: Send a letter to members of Congress using one of these pre-written templates
  • Write a press release: If you’ve received DEA or other digital inclusion funding, write a press release to share how important this news is! You can find a press release template here.
  • Celebrate and raise awareness! It’s important to raise awareness about the DEA funding’s positive impact on the community. If you’ve received funding, check out this document with ideas to celebrate the award, as well as this one with a potential celebration agenda.
  • Stay informed: Stay on top of DEA news by reviewing the funding allocations by state/territory and visiting the National Digital Inclusion Alliance’s Digital Equity Act page, as well as its list of advocacy tools and resources.

We remain steadfast in our commitment to advancing digital equity across the country, despite the current administration’s cuts to DEI programs. We are dedicated to ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their background, have access to the tools and skills necessary to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

Home Broadband 101: What Social Service Professionals Need to Know—During a recent coaching session with Bob, one of digitalLIFT’s learners, our screen-sharing kept freezing, websites loaded slowly, video calls lagged, and simple online tasks became frustrating. When we ran a speed test, we discovered why: Bob was paying more than $50 per month for internet service that delivered just 6 Mbps (megabits per second) download and 0.3 Mbps upload speeds. Bob was paying a relatively high price for an internet service that struggled to support basic online activities. After exploring other options in his area, Bob switched providers. Today, he receives more than 300 Mbps download speeds and 40 Mbps upload speeds for a similar monthly cost. His story highlights an important lesson: when helping clients get online, look beyond internet access and ask whether they have internet service that actually meets their needs.Read full article: digitallift.org/home-broadband-101-what-social-service-professionals-need-to-know/#BroadbandOptions #AffordableInternet #DigitalInclusion #digitalLIFT ...
