CELEBRATING 13 YEARS OF CTN!

On March 3, Community Tech Network turned 13! Since our founding in 2008, we have enlarged our community, greatly expanded our impact, and learned a lot along the way. Today CTN is a teenager, and this year, we had a major growth spurt. The pandemic prompted a rapid transformation of our organization as we shifted to remote programming. To meet the needs of our community, we implemented new approaches and imagined new possibilities. None of this would be possible without our passionate community.

Read more about our journey, our people, and our partners as we reflect on an incredible 13 years!

NEW REPORT HIGHLIGHTS THE DIGITAL DIVIDE

We are excited to see a new report, created by Older Adults Technology Services (OATS) and Humana, that provides current data on digital connectivity among older adults. Its key findings help us better understand the digital divide and how we can best address it.

Read more about the report on our blog.

COMMUNITY TECH NETWORK SPOTLIGHT

LEARNER: BRENDA JOYCE

A lifelong traveler, Brenda suddenly found herself unable to maintain her usual lifestyle when the pandemic hit. With the help of her tablet and Home Connect training, she was able to embrace online programming and embrace technology as a creative outlet.

VOLUNTEER: JOYCE BANKS

“My learner is pretty isolated and can feel down sometimes,” says volunteer digital coach Joyce Banks. “Whenever I call her, she gets so happy and says, ‘Hi, Joyce, how are you? I miss you!’ It really warms my heart.”

Read how Joyce is fostering connections and reducing isolation through the Home Connect program!

PARTNER: ON LOK

“CTN has given many of our participants, especially our monolingual Spanish participants, the support and knowledge to be able to access the internet and learn their new free device,” says Melissa Bravo, activities and program manager at On Lok.

Check out how our partnership with On Lok is combating social isolation and tackling the digital divide.

CTN IN THE NEWS

The Associated Press featured Community Tech Network in a recent article, “Never too late: Pandemic propels older shoppers online.” The article was picked by over a dozen news outlets, including The Washington Post and ABC.

Thank You, NCOA: Advancing Digital Safety and Confidence for Older Adults—At digitalLIFT, we believe that everyone deserves the knowledge and confidence to navigate today's digital world safely. Thanks to the generous support of the National Council on Aging (NCOA) (connect.ncoa.org/), we were able to help older adults build essential cybersecurity skills and receive personalized technology support that empowers them to stay connected.Through this grant, our team successfully delivered four Cybersecurity Basics workshops, reaching 56 older adult learners in the Bay Area. The workshops combined the high-quality AT&T Digital Literacy Resources (connect.ncoa.org/ATTDigitalLiteracySeniorCenters) with digitalLIFT's own Internet Safety curriculum (digitallift.org/teach-online-safety/), giving participants practical strategies to recognize scams, create strong passwords, protect personal information, and safely use technology in their daily lives.Read full article: digitallift.org/thank-you-ncoa-advancing-digital-safety-and-confidence-for-older-adults/#NCOA #AT&TDigitalLiteracySeniorCenters #DigitalSafety #digitalLIFT ... Board Member Spotlight: Keri Vogtmann—At digitalLIFT, our board members bring a wealth of experience and a shared belief that technology should create opportunities, not barriers. This month, we’re excited to introduce Keri Vogtmann, Chair of digitalLIFT's Development Committee, whose career has focused on making technology more accessible, intuitive, and meaningful for everyone.“The most innovative technology has little impact if the people it’s designed to serve can’t, or won’t, use it confidently,” she explains.Thank You, Keri!—digitalLIFT is grateful for Keri’s leadership, expertise, and passion for creating a more digitally inclusive future. Her perspective reminds us that technology is at its best when it empowers people, builds confidence, and ensures everyone has the opportunity to participate fully in our increasingly digital world.Read full article: https://digitallift.org/board-member-spotlight-keri-vogtmann/#DigitalInclusion #Leadership #digitalLIFT ...
