Since November we have had the opportunity to work with the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD) to deliver training on the San Francisco Housing Portal — DAHLIA. Our contract was to provide assistance to clients who needed help registering or using DAHLIA. We worked in the SF Connected locations where we have volunteers and hosted workshops around the city.
On June 2, we had a table at the Housing Expo that allowed us to spread the word about computer labs across the city. Volunteers in the labs can guide individuals through DAHLIA and help with other digital literacy needs such as email. The event was organized and hosted by HomeownershipSF (HSF), a nonprofit partner providing DAHLIA access and outreach. Through participating in this event, we helped 20 people sign up for an account on DAHLIA and for email alerts for housing opportunities from MOHCD. We distributed the DAHLIA user guide, which walks users through parts of DAHLIA, provides tips on email and passwords, and lists SF Connected sites for digital assistance. We discussed the SF Connected locations where learners can find digital assistance and workshops for DAHLIA.
To date we have offered DAHLIA workshops at St. Anthony’s Tenderloin Tech Lab, Goodwill Career Center, Excelsior, Visitacion Valley, Chinatown and Western Addition public library branches, the Women’s Building, and the YMCA. We also conducted DAHLIA training for staff members of Tenderloin Housing Clinic, printed a digital resource guide, and conducted outreach events across the city in English, Spanish, and Cantonese.
