Volunteer for Digital Inclusion Week: October 7-11, 2024: Individual and Group Volunteers Needed!

  • September 18, 2024
  • General

Internet access has become essential for nearly every aspect of daily life. Need to check your medical test results? You’ll have to sign into an online portal. Applying for a job? Submit your application online. Want to see your grandkids across the country? Just make a video call.

The United Nations declared internet access a basic human right. When people lack the necessary tools and skills to navigate the online world, they can get left behind.

Join us during Digital Inclusion Week (DIW), the biggest digital equity event of the year, to help us make a difference.

How You Can Help

So, are you ready to get involved? We need individuals and groups to volunteer during our in-person Tech Teach-In events across San Francisco throughout the week of October 7-11, 2024. As a volunteer, here’s what you can expect:

Before the Event:

  • Assist with setting up the space by arranging tables, chairs, and equipment.
  • Welcome participants and help them sign in at the registration table.

During the Event:

  • Support learners by answering their questions. A CTN instructor will lead the lesson, but volunteers are crucial to ensuring that every learner gets the support they need.
  • Capture the moment! Use your phone to snap a few photos so we can share the event on social media.

After the event:

  • Provide one-on-one tech support! Participants often stick around to ask questions about their personal devices.
  • Assist participants in filling out feedback forms.
  • Help with event clean-up, such as removing tablecloths or putting away chairs.

No prior teaching experience necessary. Volunteer opportunities available for both groups and individuals who speak English, Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or Tagalog. View our event calendar here.

It’s easy to sign up! Just email corporate@communitytechnetwork.org. Afterwards, you’ll receive an email with more information.

International Friendship Day—Friend or Fraud? Building Safe Relationships in a Digital World. Technology has made finding new and old friends easier than ever. It has connected grandparents with grandchildren, military families across continents, neighbors with shared interests, gamers all across the world, and people searching for support, information, and community in moments when they need it most. But on International Friendship Day, there’s another side of the story we can't ignore.• Not every profile represents a real person.• Not every friend request comes from someone looking for genuine connection. At digitalLIFT, we believe that the greatest act of digital kindness is learning how to protect ourselves—and each other, and digital confidence includes knowing how to build healthy, safe relationships online.Read full article: digitallift.org/international-friendship-day/#InternationalFriendshipDay #SafeRelationships #OnlineSafety #digitalLIFT ...
